One Runs the Sports Academy Pacific Half Marathon & One Runs the Sports Academy Chesebro Half Marathon
What is the Team Marathon?
The 2-Person Team Marathon Challenge consists of a team of two – you and a friend. You both run a different half marathon course at the Great Race.
One person runs the Chesebro Half Marathon (mostly trail course) starting at 7 a.m. on Carell Ave. near Agoura High School and the second person runs the Pacific Half Marathon (all road course) starting at 7:30 a.m. at Paramount Ranch. Both races finish at the same finish line in Chumash Park.
This is NOT a relay. This is a TEAM Marathon. Each team consists of two people and your team can be male/male, female/female or male/female.
Scoring and Results
Each person’s finish time is calculated. Then finish times are gender and age-graded based on USATF rules. The two times will be added together to get the total team time. The fastest three age-graded teams in each division (women’s, men’s, coed) are Sports Academy Team Marathon Challenge award winners.
Each entrant is also timed individually and is included in the overall and age group results for the race they ran - the Sports Academy Chesebro Half or Sports Academy Pacific Half.
About Each Half Marathon
PACIFIC HALF MARATHON: This road race is unbelievably scenic, exploring Malibu Wine Country. You would never know you were in suburban L.A. Starting on an Old West movie set in Paramount Ranch, the route runs around the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area passing two wineries through the historic areas of Cornell, Malibou Lake and Old Agoura. Completely refreshing, serene and breathtaking!
CHESEBRO HALF MARATHON: This is a unique run that traverses some road and mostly trails. It wanders through Old Agoura down Chesebro Road and onto the Cheeseboro Canyon Trail and Palo Comado Trail in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. It's one of the largest trail races in the USA and insanely gorgeous!
On our registration page select: 2-Person Team Marathon Challenge. The two people on the team register in the same transaction. One registers for the Pacific Half Marathon and the other registers for the Chesebro Half Marahton. One person pays by credit card. Team members decide between each other how to split the registration fee.
Course Time Limits
The Pacific Half course time limit is 3 hours, 15 minutes. That's about a 15 minute per mile pace. Start time is 7:30 a.m.
The Chesebro Half course time limit is 3 hours, 30 minutes. That's about a 16 minute per mile pace. Start time is 7:00 a.m. *You must reach the trail entrance at Mile 3 in less than 48 minutes in order to continue the race.
Starting Locations & Parking
Where is the start?
For the Pacific Half Marathon, the start is in Western Town at Paramount Ranch (a very long way from Chumash Park so don't go there).
For the Chesebro Half Marathon, the start is in front of 5777 Carell Avenue. Look for the giant blue arch. This is a residential street. It is early. Please be mindful of the kind neighbors. The start is nearly a half mile away (uphill) from registration and pick up at Chumash Park.
Where do I park for the Pacific Half Marathon?
Park at Paramount Ranch. There is plenty of parking there, however, the road leading into Parmount Ranch is a narrow two lane road. Thousands of you heading to the same place at the same time equals early morning traffic. Plan ahead and allow yourself plenty of time!
When I park at Paramount Ranch for the Pacific Half Marathon, how do I get back to my vehicle?
The race is providing free shuttle service from the finish area near Chumash Park (pick up the bus at the southwest corner of Kanan Rd. and Thousand Oaks Blvd. near Chase Bank in the parking lot of the shopping center anchored by Vons) back to Paramount Ranch after the race. There is no pre-race shuttle from the finish to the start.
Where do I park for the Chesebro Half Marathon?
There is absolutely NO PARKING around Chumash Park and surrounding streets. There is NO PARKING anywhere near the start. If you park in a no parking zone, your vehicle will be towed and your trip home will take a lot longer than you planned. Plan ahead, read the comprehensive list of recommended parking and be prepared to find another lot if your first or second choice is full.
